If exceptional circumstances keep a player from participating in a tryout for their age group, please email mtairystars@gmail.com as soon as possible.)

We encourage anyone interested (and meeting eligibility requirements) to try out. Players will be selected for teams based on ability and availability. Please understand tryouts are not the same as in-house assessments. While we aim to be fair in this process, tryouts are not a science and determinations of player ability and suitability are often difficult.

2024 Team Levels by Birthdates

The date ranges below determine a player’s eligibility to try out and participate. Age ranges are strictly enforced. Copies of players’ birth certificates must be available when requested by tournaments.

  • 8 year-olds (8U)*:    May 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016
  • 9 year-olds (9U):      May 1, 2014 – April 30, 2015
  • 10 year-olds (10U):  May 1, 2013 – April 30, 2014
  • 11 year-olds (11U):  May 1, 2012 – April 30, 2013
  • 12 year-olds (12U):  May 1, 2011 – April 30, 2012

*7 year-olds (7U): Mt. Airy Baseball does not offer a 7U Stars team. Advanced 7-year-old players can try out for the Stars 8U team. If a 7U player is selected for an 8U roster, the player will be allowed to participate with the 8U team until the next tryout. At that point, the player’s eligibility will be determined by age range. (For example, a 7U player who makes the 2024 8U team would be eligible to try out for the 2025 8U team.)

No player receiving an opportunity to participate above their age group should expect an ongoing exception or roster spot outside the eligibility date range(s).

Note: A registration fee is only due if a player is offered and accepts a roster spot on a Stars team. No player will be excluded from a Stars team due to a family's inability to pay fees.

Eligibility

  1. All players are subject to the age-range eligibility requirements above.
  2. All players must participate in the Mt. Airy Baseball spring in-house league.
  3. All players interested in joining a Stars team roster must participate in at least one tryout. We strongly recommend participating in both tryout dates.
  4. All players must be available for at least four of the weekends of the summer tournament season, expected to run from about June 21 – July 28.

Young people learn and develop differently and at different times. All players have an equal opportunity to be chosen for the team in their age group. Roster spots are not guaranteed for any player based on a prior season’s performance. Participants must try out each year.

What are Stars teams?

Mt. Airy Baseball Stars teams provide committed, competitive players with a higher level of baseball instruction and an opportunity to experience a higher level of competition.

Our Stars teams play in 3 to 4 summer tournaments. Often the first tournament will take place Memorial weekend, and the final tournament may take place the last weekend in July.

Availability and participation during that period remains the league-mandated requirement for player participation. However, some teams have chosen to extend their practices and games to additional seasons or nearly year-round.
